First Ear Infection

I knew something wasn't right when Luke started getting fussy earlier this week.  It is easy to tell when you have a baby that never cries!  He would wake up after about two minutes of sleeping in his crib, and then when daycare called to say he only took three ounces of his bottle we knew something wasn't right.  So Andy took him to urgent care on Tuesday, and sure enough, ear infection in his left ear.  And conveniently timed as Andy flew out of the state on business Tuesday night!  So Tuesday night was the longest night I've had since Luke's first night home from the hospital.  I think we only slept a few hours.  He would pass out in my arms, and then the second I would try to lay him down, he would wake up screaming.  Poor little buddy!  For a baby that never cries, I knew he was in some pain.

Wednesday night I gave him some Tylenol before bed and he slept better.  Not in his crib though, but in his blue bouncy chair.  At least he slept!  He slept from 9pm - 4am in the chair, next to my bed.  Though I think I was up every hour checking on him making sure he was breathing, hadn't fallen out of the chair, or had a bad reaction to the Tylenol!

Look at this face!!  Last night he did much better.  No Tylenol was given, and he put himself to sleep in his crib around 8pm and slept until 2am.  So I slept hard and feel much better this morning.

We are hoping this is a one time deal, and we don't have the same problems that we had with Miss Hannah!  Andy said next ear infection and he is calling our ENT and scheduling the tubes appointment.

Luke - 3 Months

Look at this big boy!!  Luke hit the 3 month mark November 1st.  He is such a big boy!!  Still putting on the ounces, he weighed in at 14lbs 12 oz when I snuck him on the scale at the Dr. office the night the kids got their flu shots.  His 3 month clothes are not going to fit him for much longer!!  But I am still squeezing his bottom into size 1 diapers as I still have SO many of them!!  They say they fit to 14 lbs, which is probably right, but this boy is still rocking the size 1's for a bit longer.

What Luke is up to at 3 Months:
  • Loves staring at his hands.  He hasn't been real big on putting them in his mouth too much yet - but I'm sure it will come soon.
  • He started daycare full time on October 21st - the first few days were rough, since he wouldn't take a bottle.  But now he eats like a champ, eating 5.5 ounces every 3 hours.
  • He still wakes up at night, and yes, I feed him since that gets him right back to sleep.  Every night is still so different.  Some nights he will go 6 hours, some nights he will get up at 1am and 4am, 2 nights he slept from 9 - 5!  As I've learned with the last two, this too shall pass.  And honestly, I enjoy my snuggle time with him in the quiet times of the morning since that is really the only time we get just the two of us with no one else screaming about needing something!  And I've taken up coffee, so the caffeine gets me through the days!
  • He still takes most of his naps in his sheep swing, which won't be for much longer as he seems to be outgrowing it!
  • He found his voice around 2 months, but now he has learned he can make the highest pitched squeel ever.  And he does it a lot.  And it is pretty funny!
  • He is the LOUDEST eater.  Seriously, so loud.  He makes a clicking noise with each suck.  He is actually just a really loud baby in general.  Breathing, eating, sleeping, you name it!
  • He is not the best at burping, which then turns into a huge gas bubble which eventually comes out as the biggest spit up ever.  It happened to me last night and soaked my nursing tank so bad I had to change it!
  • He loves his brother and sister so much.  And we are STILL working with Hannah on being gentle.  Luke is going to be one.tough.cookie.

Love these 3!

The Many Faces of Luke at 2 Months Old

This little mister at two months is smiling a lot more, but he still makes you work for them.  He loves his brother and sister, sleeps a lot, and continues to be a great eater.

At his two month check:

Weight - 13lb 2oz at 70%
Height - 23" at 48%
Head - 16 1/8" at 93%

Chubby thighs!

Love Hannah's photo bomb in this pic.  Of the 20 pictures I took, she photo bombed about 10 of them!   Here is another one:

Yep - that is a triple chin!

I love all the faces this little man makes, and love how he has just fit in perfectly with our family!  He continues to be such a chill baby boy, rarely cries, and just loves to be snuggled.  One of his favorite places to fall asleep is on his daddy's lap, which is what happens most nights while mommy takes turns with the older two.  At two months he still eats every two hours during the day, and continues to be pretty consistent at night waking up once, sometimes twice each night.  He eats for about two minutes, and goes right back to sleep in his crib.

No problems at his two month check, he handled the shots as expected, and the nurse was not surprised that he takes 5 ounces a feeding!  He never gets a bottle, since it is hard for me to find time to pump, and the next post will be all about the stress of bottle boot camp for Luke!

Happy 1st Birthday Kate

Kate Johanna turns one tomorrow!  All of the Schmidt family got together in Geneseo to celebrate Kate turning one today.  Here are some pics from the big day.  Can't believe it has already been a year!!

The party started one hour before the Hawkeye game - so operation open presents as fast as possible went into place!  And was successful:)
